In a recent operation, Tether assisted the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in recovering stolen cryptocurrency valued at approximately $10,000 CAD. The swift action was made possible through Tether’s proactive involvement and collaboration with the OPP Cyber Investigations Team (CIT).
The case emerged when a cryptocurrency heist discovered assets in USD₮, Tether, the stablecoin. As soon as Tether learned of the situation, the specific assets were promptly halted. This quick response helped the OPP regain the money and return it to the owner of the stolen money.
The OPP’s Detective Staff Sergeant Addison Hunter said that Tether offered voluntary help and said, “Due to the assistance and cooperation of Tether International Ltd., the stolen digital assets were recovered and returned to the victim. This cooperation was useful to guarantee the rapid restitution of most assets.”
