Are you a sports fan? If so, and you fancy the idea of purchasing cool sports gear and memorabilia with cryptocurrency, then SL Benfica is making your dream a reality.
Sports and Crypto Are Tightly Linked
The Portuguese sports club has announced a new deal with the cryptocurrency service company U Trust to allow its users and funs to purchase merchandise and event tickets with digital assets. Transactions can occur on the sports club’s website either with bitcoin, ether tokens or U Trust’s own cryptocurrency known as UTK.
The CEO of the club Domingos Soares de Oliveira commented that the club has several fans that are also crypto enthusiasts and traders. This new payment pathway is designed specifically with them in mind, and he’s eager to see the results. He says:
We recognize that many of our supporters are now digital users first, so we want to be ahead of the curve when it comes to adopting novel technologies and giving our supporters the best online experiences.
The big benefit to using U Trust, the club mentions in a press release, is that the company allows instant crypto-to-fiat conversions. This means that whatever money the club earns, it can instantly pocket through cash conversions. Thus, the club can avoid the price swings and volatility often associated with most major forms of cryptocurrency while still utilizing the swift and secure transaction properties boasted by blockchain technology.
At press time, SL Benfica potentially has as many as seven million followers on its several social media pages, though its fanbase is probably double that size. The club is confident its new crypto payment options will grow its fanbase further.
In related news, an English Premier League football team known as West Ham United has joined hands with a company called Socios.com, a blockchain services platform. The partnership will allow the league to produce what it’s calling a “fan token ecosystem.” Individuals can ultimately utilize tokens to engage in games, surveys and other activities to potentially earn rewards and more coins for taking part.
It appears that cryptocurrency and sports are becoming a stronger match as digital technology progresses further. Last November, Live Bitcoin News reported that NBA all-star champ Kobe Bryant of Los Angeles Lakers fame would serve as the guest speaker at that year’s TRON summit. Justin Sun, the CEO and founder of the Tron network and its respective cryptocurrency, commented that he had been a major fan of Bryant for many years.
Big Names in Sports Turn to Crypto
He stated:
I have been a huge fan of Kobe and deeply inspired by his journey. It’s my great honor to have Kobe as our special guest for the niTROn Summit. It’s worth mentioning that Kobe Bryant is not only a basketball genius, but also an investment genius. We look forward to hearing his great speeches at the summit.
