Samsung expands blockchain and biometric security across smart home devices, strengthening protection with Knox Matrix and upcoming Knox Vault.
Samsung is taking a significant step in strengthening security across its AI-powered home appliances by expanding the use of blockchain technology. On October 21, 2024, the company unveiled plans to integrate blockchain into its Samsung Knox security framework. This move extends the protection previously available on mobile devices and TVs to a wider range of home appliances. In addition, it ensures a higher level of security for users.
The new security system of the Galaxy S21 series, Knox Matrix, builds a “Trust Chain” on a private blockchain. This chain allows the devices to monitor each other for security threats and inform the user in case anything goes wrong. It provides safeguards for standalone devices and those connected and integrated, resulting in even higher security.
Samsung Strengthens Appliance Security with Blockchain and Biometric Features
Al 2024 Samsung has reported at the Samsung Developer Conference (SDC24) its intention to expand Knox Matrix to household appliances such as refrigerators and AI-assisted washers. Cross Platform of Knox Matrix is one of the options, and it is responsible for ensuring that security protocols in devices stay the same even if the gadgets have different operating systems. Credential Sync, another system component, encrypts data between devices, so it stays safe.
Furthermore, Samsung plans to incorporate physical authentication for its home appliances in 2025. This will enable users to authenticate devices using fingerprints or other mobile biometrics to replace passwords.
As part of its overall security initiative, Samsung plans to roll out Knox Vault in 2025. This technology will protect the hardware security chip from cyberattacks by including passwords and biometric data.
Samsung’s concern for security has already been acknowledged. Its AI home appliances, such as the Bespoke 4-Door Refrigerator, have been rated under the highest IoT security rating, dubbed the ‘Diamond’ by UL Solutions. This recognition highlights Samsung’s ongoing efforts to protect users’ data from external threats.
Moving forward, the company wants to integrate blockchain security into more devices, thus strengthening its dedication to creating safe, connected smart homes. Thus, Samsung stays at the forefront of AI appliances’ ecosystem development, ensuring the connected future of smart living.
