Rather than wait and see if something interesting comes across, he will focus on Initialized Capital. This early-stage venture capital firm will invest in cryptocurrencies. It will be interesting to see how this new venture will play out.
With the global interest in cryptocurrencies on the rise, interesting things are bound to happen. No one should quit their job to pursue cryptocurrencies, though. That is unless you own an early stage venture capital firm focusing on Bitcoin and altcoins. That is exactly what Initialized Capital is all about. The firm is co-founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian. It is a rather surprising turn of events in terms of job choice.
Initialized Capital Will Focus on Blockchain Startups
The timing of this decision raises a lot of questions. It is evident cryptocurrency will remain a booming business for some time to come. Ohanian seems confident cryptocurrencies will see major growth in the years to come. Investing in the new up-and-coming companies at an early stage is the number one priority right now. Focusing on investment opportunities in cryptocurrency and blockchain is not all that easy, though.
Initialized Capital has been focusing on this industry for some time now. The year 2018 will be no different in this regard. Especially early stage blockchain startups are of great interest to the fund. Some of the company’s initial investments include Coinbase, Instacart, and Soylent. With a bigger focus on blockchain and cryptocurrency, the portfolio value will only grow. Initialized Capital has gone from a $250m valuation to $20bn thanks to these strategic investments. All of this was achieved in just six years.
It is unclear what the fund will invest in exactly. More specifically, there are no clear companies which the fund is excited about. It is of the utmost importance for Initialized Capital to make the right choices. For now, we will have to wait and see how things unfold in this regard. There are a lot of opportunities out there right now. Not all of these ventures are worth one’s time or money, though. A bigger focus on this industry will help elevate blockchain and cryptocurrency to new levels.
