Hublot Launches Limited Edition Bitcoin Watch

October 31st marked the 10th anniversary of the Bitcoin (BTC) white paper being published by its mysterious writer Satoshi Nakamoto. The Bitcoin blockchain and the native Bitcoin cryptocurrency were based on this paper.

Blockchain and cryptocurrency evangelists celebrated Bitcoin’s anniversary across the globe. One of the leading Swiss watchmakers, Hublot, came up with a unique way to acknowledge the growing influence of the world’s first cryptocurrency.

The Swiss watchmaker has created a limited-edition timepiece dedicated to Bitcoin, the king of cryptocurrencies. The story was reported earlier by Mashable.

BitcoinDetails of the Time Piece

The watch named “Hublot Big Bang Meca-10 P2P” reportedly is a 45mm wristwatch with a case made of micro-blasted and polished black ceramic, with a skeleton dial (meaning you can see the watch’s interior mechanism) and 10ATM water resistance.

The timepiece has an automatic movement which means it does not need an external battery (It has a 10-day power reserve). The firm has used its own in-house made movement HUB1201.

The Big Bang Meca-10 P2P has the Bitcoin logo on one of its gears, and the strap is made from rubber and blue calf leather with an imprint that seems to have blockchain as its inspiration.

Price

Hublot has still not revealed the cost of the watch. However, based on other models with similar features, it is expected to be upwards of $20,000. So, it may be only a handful of Bitcoin millionaires (the early miners and investors who bought BTC when it was cheap and cashed out on the gains), that may be able to get their hands on the expensive timepiece.

The firm will manufacture only 210 pieces corresponding to the 21 Million capping of Bitcoin.

In what is an endorsement of the digital asset by Hublot, customers can buy the Big Bang Meca-10 P2P only with Bitcoins. What makes the watch unique is that the transaction id of the purchase will be engraved on the outer edge of the bezel. That makes each one of the watches traceable in case it gets lost or stolen and reappears for sale.

Given its limited numbers and the Bitcoin theme, the watch should be a hit with the Bitcoin Millionaires. It would certainly be worth showing off along with their Lamborghinis.
