Ethereum Foundation announces leadership changes to enhance efficiency, technical expertise, and community alignment, with a focus on innovation.
The Ethereum Foundation (EF) is going through significant leadership changes, as announced by co-founder Vitalik Buterin. The move has been in the works for almost a year. The changes are intended to make the foundation more efficient and to better match the foundation’s scale with the demands of the Ethereum community.
On January 18, Buterin shared on X that these updates aim to correct gaps in technical expertise in EF leadership. The restructure also aims to make the operations of Ethereum Foundation smoother. Some have been implemented, and some are still in the works.
The main goals of the leadership update are to raise the level of technical expertise in the EF leadership team, increase communication between the EF leadership and the community, and introduce fresh talent. The EF aims to better support app developers. It will also ensure privacy, open-source development, and censorship resistance for all users.
Buterin and Lubin Share Vision for Ethereum Foundation Leadership changes
Buterin clarified what the changes are not about. He stressed that the Ethereum Foundation is not reaching to move away from neutrality and decentralization. Furthermore, EF has no intention of lobbying powerful political figures or compromising the status of Ethereum as a global neutral platform. Buterin stressed that EF will not become too centralized or power play for the vested interests.
At the same time, Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin proposed that a dual leadership model lead the foundation through this next phase. Potential leaders included Ethereum developer Danny Ryan and Ethereum France President Jérôme de Tychey, according to Lubin. He said the addition of leadership focused on both the technical and business aspects would give the foundation new energy and creativity. Ryan and de Tychey would be the right leaders to help keep Ethereum competitive and trusted in the blockchain world, Lubin believes.
Lubin also shared his thoughts on X, saying that one potential solution is dual leadership. He thinks his approach will lead to new energy, new talent and new creativity for the Ethereum Foundation. Besides, Lubin emphasized outside of the box manner and creative marketing strategies. The combined leadership will also serve as the driving force needed to propel the Ethereum forward, he also added. Lubin ultimately believes this new structure as vital for Ethereum’s prosperity in an ever-changing blockchain space.
