Avalanche will bring its Avalanche9000 upgrade in October, introducing grants for developers building solutions and layer-1 chains within the ecosystem. Developers have $40 million up for grabs.
The Avalanche network is bracing itself for its biggest upgrade yet, the Avalanche9000, after which it will immediately kick off its $40 million grant reserved for developers. This upgrade positions Avalanche to deliver near-instant transaction confirmations while allowing developers to use the technology to build layer-1 networks within the Avalanche ecosystem.
“Avalanche9000 is the largest network upgrade that Avalanche has undergone since mainnet launch, combined with the groundbreaking Avalanche consensus that gives any application near-instant finality,” Avalanche said in a blog post. “This upgrade will make launching your own L1 more economically feasible, simpler to customize, smoother to maintain and quicker to bring to market.”
With Avalanche9000, the Avalanche Community Proposal (APC)-77 will go live, bringing more community proposals, a testnet environment for builders to deploy use cases, and rewards. The rewards aspect includes Retro9000 and Bounty9000—the former rewarding builders laying early infrastructure for the expanding Avalanche network and the latter for those launching layer-1s.
Avalanche also stated that its community will get to vote on the deployed projects part of the Retro9000 and Bounty9000. Those deployments making it to the top of the public leader board will be offered the grants.
Avalanche9000 Has Way More in Store
Beyond the reward-related programs, the Avalanche9000 upgrade will include community proposals ACP-77, ACP-125, ACP-103, ACP-113, ACP-20, ACP-131, and ACP-118. Furthermore, the upgrade will introduce nomenclature changes, developer tooling, multi-chain launches, and partner launches.
Regarding when this will roll out, Avalanche mentioned that “it all comes together at the official Avalanche9000 kickoff at Avalanche Summit LATAM, taking place in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 16 to 18, 2024.”
