Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong urges law firms to avoid hiring anti-crypto professionals, threatening to end partnerships if violated.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong has taken a firm stance on the issue of legal professionals tied to anti-crypto sentiments. Armstrong recently announced that Coinbase has informed all its partner law firms. If any of these firms hire individuals who have previously acted against the crypto industry, Coinbase will end their partnership. He posted this message on his official X account and he underlined that this decision cannot be changed.
Armstrong said that some of the partners in law firms may still be in a position where they do not understand the position of the crypto industry. He used Milbank as an example that came under scorn for hiring Gurbir Grewal. Grewal has been linked to measures against the crypto industry. Armstrong was also very specific in stating that Coinbase will not do business with Milbank while Grewal is still employed there.
He referred to these actions as ethics violations, especially considering that most talented individuals have resigned from the SEC to avoid working on such a negative approach towards cryptocurrencies. Armstrong said that those who worked at the SEC during that time should not say that they were just obeying orders. He said that such circumstances were rare and not what one would expect during a normal tenure at the agency.
Armstrong Calls for Crypto Industry to Stop Funding Anti-Crypto Figures
Armstrong also pointed out that the affected persons could still seek employment in other sectors. He does not agree with the concept of ‘canceling’ people for life, but the crypto industry should stop giving money to the individuals who have damaged the industry. This he urged such people to go to their respective law firms and inform them that this is the kind of person that will cost them their business.
Armstrong has remained supportive of measures towards deregulation and the deconstruction of the size of government. He recently supported the creation of United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) – a relatively fresh agency aimed at decreasing costs and limitations. DOGE will be led by Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy. Armstrong also suggested that DOGE can give back the freedom economy and make the U.S. government work better.
Recently, Armstrong described the results of the recent US election as a victory for the crypto industry. He said that the election was a step towards more political backing for digital assets. This is in line with the objectives of the crypto community, where individuals want economic freedom and less state interference. Armstrong’s comments reflect his vision for a regulatory environment that encourages innovation and growth in the crypto sector.
